Don’t bother answering that; but if you must and your answer is ‘yes’, after reading my random ramblings, then feel free to keep the answer to yourself because personally i have heard and had enough of our oyinbo brothers concluding that most of the world’s deadly diseases always originate from Africa.
What really triggered my writing this piece of my mind was stemmed from my recent learning that the zika virus currently plaguing Brazil and most of South America, actually originated from a forest in Uganda- Africa.
I am no scientist and I do not claim to know it all; but why would some zika mosquito migrate from its original home, and resurface 70 years later in Brazil ? The Amazons was more attractive than the forests in Uganda? Abi were the Ugandans immune to the virus?
Why travel a whole distance of 9,781 km, crossing over Rwanda, Burundi, DR Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and the South Atlantic ocean just to give oyinbo people what to talk about?
Please, please, please, Mbakara people, enough of this negativity. The next virus outbreak discovered overseas should be named after the person who was either first infected, the virologists or the country it occurred. E.g: The zika virus should have been named after the town it first broke out from in Brazil not Uganda.
Lists of some deadly diseases claimed by scientists to have originated from Africa
1. HIV detected in a blood sample collected in 1959 from a man in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo- Africa. Scientists identified a type of chimpanzee in West Africa as the source of HIV infection in humans.
2. Ebola viruses are found in several African countries. Ebola was first discovered in 1976 near the Ebola River in what is now the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Since then, outbreaks have appeared sporadically in Africa.
3. Lassa fever or Lassa hemorrhagic fever (LHF) is an acute viral hemorrhagic fever caused by the Lassa virus and first described in 1969 in the town of Lassa, in Borno State, Nigeria.
4. Now this…The Zika virus, which has been linked to thousands of babies being born with underdeveloped brains in Brazil, was discovered in a forest in the East African state of Uganda seven decades ago.
